I am a psychotherapist working in Inner Østerbro, Copenhagen. I work especially with adult children of dysfunctional families.Sessions are held in English.

My approach

Many of us have never been taught what our feelings are for or how to understand or cope with them. Our parents may have been overwhelmed and had no idea how to regulate their own feelings, never mind ours.If you have grown up in a family where feelings were ignored or denied, you will have developed ways of thinking and behaving that helped you to cope. These strategies were brilliant when you were a child but they may actually be holding you back as an adult, especially when it comes to relationships.When you get curious about your feelings and look at them in a wider perspective, you can start to really understand and accept yourself in a way that wasn’t possible in the family that you grew up in.Psychotherapy can be a powerful tool on this journey of self-discovery. It offers a safe space to explore your thoughts and emotions, helping you gain insights into your behaviour and relationships. Through therapy, you can enhance your self-awareness, learn effective coping strategies and develop resilience.

I come from New Zealand and have lived in Copenhagen for 25 years. I’m in my early 50’s and have two kids, both now adults. I grew up in a dysfunctional family with a mentally ill parent and like many others had to learn later in life how to cope with my emotional overwhelm.My passion is working intimately with people to explore their emotional worlds. I know from personal experience how challenging it can be to discover your blind spots. I also know how empowering it is to become curious about your patterns and allow yourself to change.My toolbox is informed by diverse methods such as Neuroaffective Development, Mentalisation-based therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Art Therapy and Mindfulness.It’s never too late to become aware of and to alter the strategies you have developed to deal with life. With awareness comes a new possibility to be a stronger actor in your life and your relationships.I invite you to come on a journey with me into your emotional world.

What to expect

The first session is focused on learning about you – your family context, the important relational dynamics in your life, your challenges and your resources.We will make a plan together of what you would like to get out of therapy and how much time you would like to use on the work.If the idea of therapy is daunting, don't worry. Just think of it as a confidential conversation where you get to do most of the talking. I'll provide the tea and the questions.
You should know:• You are welcome to ask all the questions you like and also give feedback, whether it be positive or negative• That I want you to tell me if you don't feel safe for any reason and it's always your choice whether to take a break from therapy or stop altogether• That I follow the ethical guidelines of the Danish Association of Psychotherapy (DPFO)

Cancellation policy

Cancellations more than 24 hours before the booking are free. Cancellations less than 24 hours before the booking are charged at half price. In case of no-show, the full amount will be charged.Cancellations are via telephone on (+45) 2712 4832 (SMS is ok)Note: If you can’t make it physically to the session there is always the possibility of taking the session online via Zoom
